This is a 1966 single by the Beach Boys and the seventh track on their album Pet Sounds. It was originally a traditional West Indies folk song, "The John B. Sails", taken from Carl Sandburg's 1927 collection of folk songs, The American Songbag. Brian Wilson sung, produced, and arranged the Beach Boys' recording.
lyrics
We come on the sloop John B,
My grandfather and me,
Around Nassau town we did roam,
Drinking all night,
Got into a fight,
Well I feel so broke up,
I wanna o go home.
So hoist up the John B sail,
See how the mainsail sets,
Call for the Captain ashore to let me go home,
Let me go home,
I wanna go home, yeah yeah,
Well I feel so broke up,
I wanna go home.
The first mate he got drunk,
And broke in the Cap'n's trunk,
The constable had to come and take him away,
Sheriff John Stone,
Why don't you leave me alone, yeah yeah,
Well I feel so broke up I wanna go home
So hoist up the John B's sail
See how the mainsail sets
Call for the Captain ashore to let me go home,
Let me go home,
I wanna go home, let me go home
(Hoist up the John B's sail)
Hoist up the John B
I feel so broke up I wanna go home
Let me go home, hoist up the John B sail.
The poor cook he caught the fits,
And threw away all my grits,
And then he took and he ate up all of my corn,
Let me go home,
Why don't they let me go home?
This is the worst trip, I've ever been on.
So hoist up the John B's sail,
See how the mainsail sets,
Call for the Captain ashore to let me go home, let me go home
I wanna go home, let me go home
Why don't you let me go home
Let me go home, hoist up the John B sail.
I wanna go home

One of my first attempts at recording using a cheap RockShow USB mic and Cool Edit Pro to mix the tracks. I sing all the vocal parts and play all the instruments.
Started playing the guitar when I was 10 - took a 6 week crash course and was self-taught from there on. Played in a few
bands but always played. Technology has now allowed me to record my versions of songs and instead of just hearing the harmonies and other instruments in my head, I could now add them!
I hope you enjoy these songs!...more
