When Gord Downie of The Tragically Hip announced he had brain cancer in May of 2016, the Hip announced their final tour would take place this summer. I've always loved this song and was originally introduced to it by Wendy Sims - a friend from work. When I announced to Wendy that I was going to do a cover of this song she asked if she could help with some acoustic guitar playing. I added a simple bass line myself, my daughter sang the second verse and middle 8 (with Wendy & I) and I sand the first and last verse - playing my 12 string. Kurt Jones - a good friend from YouTube provided me with the rest of the guitar picking AND slide guitar - which was crucial to getting the sound right.
lyrics
September seventeen,
For a girl I know it's Mother's Day,
Here son has gone alee,
And that's where he will stay,
Wind on the weather vane,
Tearing blue eyes sailor-mean,
As Falstaff sings a sorrowful refrain,
For a boy in Fiddler's Green
(2nd verse - Sung by Meghan Cederberg)
His tiny knotted heart,
Well, I guess it never worked too good,
The timber tore apart,
And the water gorged the wood,
You can hear her whispered prayer,
For men at masts that always lean,
The same wind that moves her hair,
Moves a boy through Fiddler's Green.
He doesn't know a soul,
There's nowhere that he's really been,
But he won't travel long alone,
No, not in Fiddler's Green,
Balloons all filled with rain,
As children's eyes turn sleepy-mean,
And Falstaff sings a sorrowful refrain,
For a boy in Fiddler's Green

Started playing the guitar when I was 10 - took a 6 week crash course and was self-taught from there on. Played in a few
bands but always played. Technology has now allowed me to record my versions of songs and instead of just hearing the harmonies and other instruments in my head, I could now add them!
I hope you enjoy these songs!...more
