This is a song written by Canadian poet and musician Leonard Cohen. It was featured on his debut album, Songs of Leonard Cohen. I preferred Brian Hyland's substantially shorter yet upbeat and rockier version of this classic.
lyrics
Come over to the window my little darlin',
I'd like to try to read your palm,
I used to think I was some kind of gypsy boy,
before, I let you take me home.
So long, Marianne.
It's time we began,
to laugh, and cry, and cry,
and laugh about it all again.
Well you know I'd love to live with you,
But you make me forget so very much,
I forget to pray to the angels,
And then the angels forget to pray for us.
So long, Marianne,
It's time we began,
to laugh, and cry, and cry,
And laugh about it all again.
Ooooh you, you're really such a pretty one,
I see you've gone and changed your name again,
Just when I climbed this whole mountain side,
To wash my eyelids in the rain.
So long, Marianne,
It's time we began,
to laugh, and cry, and cry,
and laugh about it ...
So long, Marianne.
So long, Marianne,
It's time we began,
to laugh, and cry, and cry,
and laugh about it ...
So long, Marianne.

I played all the parts... guitar, bass and percussion and sang all the harmonies as well.
Started playing the guitar when I was 10 - took a 6 week crash course and was self-taught from there on. Played in a few
bands but always played. Technology has now allowed me to record my versions of songs and instead of just hearing the harmonies and other instruments in my head, I could now add them!
I hope you enjoy these songs!...more
