about

This a song by the Beatles, released in 1965. Written by John Lennon (credited to Lennon–McCartney) it was first released as the B-side to "Ticket to Ride". It features some of the Beatles' most complex and dissonant three-part vocal harmonies and showcased George Harrison's early use of volume pedal guitar.
This is a studio take of the song (Released on the Anthology box set) where John Lennon starts out playing with just an acoustic guitar - like he's trying to 'sell' it to the band. Partway into it he seems to 'forget' the words as he's playing and the others join in with their harmonies. I never added any bass or peddle guitar (Harrison)

lyrics

If you wear red tonight
Remember what I said tonight
For red is the color that my baby wore
And what is more, it's true
Yes it is

Scarlet were the clothes she wore
Everybody knows I'm sure
I would remember all the things we planned
Understand, it's true
Yes it is, it's true
Yes it is

[Here's where Lennon forgets the words and makes them up as he keeps playing]
If I could forget her, but it's my pride
Yes it is, yes it is
Oh, yes it is, yeah

Please don't wear red tonight
This is what I said tonight
For red is the color that will make me blue
In spite of you, it's true
Yes it is, it's true
Yes it is

I could be happy with you by my side
If I could forget her, but it's my pride
Yes it is, yes it is
Oh, yes it is, yeah

Please don't wear red tonight
This is what I said tonight
For red is the color that will make me blue
In spite of you, it's true
Yes it is, it's true
Yes it is, it's true

about

Mike Cederberg Mississauga, Ontario

Started playing the guitar when I was 10 - took a 6 week crash course and was self-taught from there on. Played in a few bands but always played. Technology has now allowed me to record my versions of songs and instead of just hearing the harmonies and other instruments in my head, I could now add them!
I hope you enjoy these songs!
